Volunteer

Volunteers provide an array of services; preparing meals, working in the yard or spending time with guests are just some examples of what volunteers contribute. Below are further examples of some of our greatest needs. If you are interested in volunteering, or know of a group or individual that may be, we have an orientation session the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of each month at 3:00 and 6:00 pm. Please contact us at info@hospitalityhouseofcharlotte.org or by calling Kimberly Melton at 704-376-0060 ext. 6 to sign up.

Welcoming Our Guests

Our volunteers are the heart of our organization and our front desk is the first contact our guests have with us. Each volunteer has an opportunity to touch the lives of each of our families in crisis. Our front desk volunteers check our guests in, show them our house and make sure they are comfortable in their room.

Because our house offers 24-hour on-site support, volunteers are needed to staff the house during the weekday hours from 9am-9pm, while resident managers cover the late night and early morning hours. Volunteers are assigned regular shifts once each month, 9am-1pm, 1pm-5pm or 5pm-9pm. Responsibilities include: checking in guests, assisting with household chores, answering questions and providing general assistance.

Groups, Organizations and Churches have adopted HHoC

HHoC provides a wonderful opportunity for volunteer opportunities for businesses, groups and churches. Since there are so many types of volunteer opportunities at HHoC we can tailor our needs to your schedule. Some organizations pick a night (example the 2nd Tuesday of the month) and staff the desk with their volunteers. Volunteers are also needed to staff the desk at other times. Our basic shifts are Mon – Fri from 9-1, 1-5, 5-9. Sat & Sun 9-1 and 1- 5. Below are some examples of volunteer opportunities here at HHoC. Bring a Meal or Make Stone Soup

Our guests would enjoy a hot meal when they get back to the house at night. Casseroles and stews are always welcome. Some organizations pick a night each month and bring the guests dinner.

Youth groups can come and make stone soup for our guests here in our kitchen. This wonderful story help youth understand that a little action by a few can make a big difference for many. Here is the stone soup story: The Story of Stone Soup

Yard Work

Since we have a new yard we always need help watering and weeding. Assist with yard work or landscaping individually or with Hands On Charlotte the first Saturday morning of each month. We would love a master gardener to help us create a design for our grounds.

Throw a Shower or Pantry Party

Throw a party and have a house warming or shower for HHoC. With 50 beds we can always use toilet paper and supplies. (See list for details) Donation needs flyer

Fundraising

Since we are a non profit we rely on the generosity of our guests and friends.  We have some specific needs such as a new shelving and organization for our storage closets. We are also registered at Target and Bed Bath and Beyond.

Suite Adoption
Our living areas are home for over 225 guests each month. We offer the opportunity for community volunteers to adopt a suite of rooms to lovingly care for on a regular quarterly interval, cleaning, decorating, and adding a personal caring touch for the benefit of our Guests.

Join the Auxiliary
The purpose of the organization's Auxiliary is to support Hospitality House. The group organizes and executes a number of volunteer projects such as assisting with fundraisers, helping to maintain the building and grounds, and developing special recognition events for volunteer hostesses. Below are just some projects managed by the Auxiliary. If you are interested in joining our Auxiliary or would like to learn more about these and other volunteer opportunities, please call Angie Bush at 704-376-0060/ ext. 3.

Fix-It Person

We would love to have someone come in and help us with those little fix-it chores.
