What is Hospitality House of Charlotte?
Hospitality House of Charlotte is a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 serving loved ones of patients in local hospitals. The organization’s home provides housing, meals and emotional support for guests at no charge, and is conveniently located near Charlotte’s largest hospitals – Carolinas Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital.

How is Hospitality House of Charlotte different from Ronald McDonald Houses?
While Ronald McDonald Houses only accept families of hospitalized children as guests, Hospitality House of Charlotte serves loved ones of both hospitalized adults and children.

Is Hospitality House owned or managed by the local hospitals?
Although Hospitality House enjoys a strong relationship with Carolinas Medical Center and Presbyterian Hospital and works closely with their staff on a daily basis, the organization is not owned or managed by these hospitals. Hospitality House staff, board, auxiliary, resident managers and volunteers manage Hospitality House as an independent nonprofit organization, operating on donations from a variety of areas, including individuals, churches, foundations, corporations and community organizations.

Where is Hospitality House located?
The organization has a home at 1400 Scott Avenue across from Carolinas Medical Center. The home is just outside of Uptown Charlotte.

Can anyone stay at Hospitality House?
All guests must be referred by area hospitals and must live outside of Charlotte, with exceptions granted on a case-by-case basis. Social workers, chaplains, patient representatives and nursing supervisors screen requests and check for bed availability. If there are no vacancies, guests may be invited to be “Day-Use Guests,” where they have the opportunity to shower, do laundry, cook, eat, or simply relax between hospital visits.

Who manages the homes?
Resident Managers are on-site at each of the houses from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday and on weekends. Volunteers staff the houses during weekday mornings and afternoons.

What services are available to Hospitality House guests?
Guests are provided a bed, place to shower, laundry facilities and access to a fully-stocked kitchen. An in-house phone may be used for incoming calls only. In addition to the personal touches that make guests feel like they are at home, volunteers and resident managers are on-site to answer any questions and provide emotional support. The house does not provide any on-site medical services.

How much does it cost?
Guest stay at Hospitality House free of charge, but are asked to help out with daily chores such as making their bed, folding laundry and cleaning up after themselves. The organization depends on charitable donations to provide its services.

How long can guests stay?
Guests are allowed to stay for a period up to three weeks. After this point, their stay will be given further consideration on a case-by-case basis.
